Students of KIIT School of Architecture and Planning (KSAP) have achieved noteworthy successes at the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Odisha’s Design Carnival event, “Samarth.” The students participated in numerous design and cultural competitions and secured a significant share of prizes in both formal and informal design competitions.

They claimed 1st place in the Cultural, Fashion, and Sketch-it-up competitions, and also earned the 2nd runner-up position in the Mask Making competition within the informal design segment. In the formal design category, they clinched 1st place in Futurescape, secured 2nd place in Major Design and Landscape, and attained 3rd place in Minor Design. Students from nine colleges across the state participated in these competitions.

The Design Carnival, held from September 9th to 10th, 2023 in Bhubaneswar, was organized by the IIA Odisha Chapter and was attended by delegates and prominent architects from across the country. Over 180 architects, professionals, academicians, and researchers participated in the two-day conclave and carnival.

Two faculty members of the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Paediatrics Department have won second position in the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) National Inter Zonal Neonatology Quiz (online), bringing laurels for the institution and KIIT-DU.

For the first time IAP has started the National Inter Zonal Neonatology Quiz (online) and it was held on the Independence Day.  Out of total five zones, East Zone was represented by Dr Manaswinee Sahoo (DM, Neonatology) and Dr Subhranshu Sekhar Dhal  (DM, Pediatric Critical Care), both Assistant Professors in Department of Pediatrics, KIMS, Bhubaneswar, and they stood second in the prestigious event.

HOD Paediatrics Prof (Dr) Manas Ranjan Behera congratulated the team and expressed his satisfaction over the success of his fellow faculty members in the national-level quiz and bringing credits to the Department. He also thanked Founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta for providing the infrastructure and ambience to work and encouragement to participate in the national-level events.

Mr. Amarendra Mohapatra, a talented student from KIIT School of Film and Media Science (SFMS), has achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving a rare honor at an esteemed International Film Festival held in the USA. His short film titled “ABARJANA” stood out among a staggering 13,868 entries from 120 countries, earning an ‘Honorable Mention’ at the prestigious “2023 Student World Impact Film Festival.”

The School is celebrating the student’s achievement and appreciates the student’s social responsibility as the film deals with maintaining city cleanliness. Prof. Ganeswar Mohapatra, Coordinator and other faculty members have commended this artistic and successful endeavour of the student.

This achievement speaks volumes about the level of academic support and preparedness that the students at SFMS receive and showcase. Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has won 2023 International Green Gown Awards for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Sustainability. The prestigious award was presented at a ceremony as a part of the UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on July 17, 2023. KISS stood out as the sole NGO in India to be shortlisted for this distinguished category.

Among the 93 finalists representing 25 countries, KISS was recognized as one of the 12 winners for its Project Uday – creating change-makers in tribal pockets.

The International Green Gown Awards, supported by esteemed organisations such as the United Nations Environment Programme, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), L’Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), International Association of Universities (IAU), and Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI), celebrate and endorse the outstanding efforts of educational institutions worldwide in promoting sustainability. KISS rightly deserves the award as it has served as a shining example of impactful and innovative practices in sustainability.

The organisation’s honesty in sharing both successes and challenges faced along the journey demonstrates its bravery, confidence, and humility. KIIT Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI) has been honored with the prestigious Biospectrum Excellence Award 2021-22 and secured the top position among all public and private incubators in India. The award was received by Prof. Mrutyunjay Suar, DG (R&D), KIIT & CEO, KIIT-TBI in New Delhi on 30^th June 2023. KIIT-TBI achieved an outstanding score of 23.01, surpassing its competitors. C-CAMP, a Bangalore-based public incubator, secured the second position with a score of 13.84, followed closely by CSIR-NCL based Venture Centre with a score of 13.02. The Biospectrum rankings, conducted annually, serve to acknowledge the accomplishments of the Biotechnology and Life Science Industries and Bioincubators.

Established in 2012 with support from the DBT-Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Govt. of India, KIIT-TBI Bioincubator has played a vital role in fostering bio-entrepreneurship, not only in Odisha but also in the Eastern and Northeastern regions of India. The incubator has successfully supported over 200 biotech and life sciences-based startups across the country, contributing significantly to the development of a thriving startup ecosystem. Its exceptional work in incubation has been acknowledged by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, which has recognized KIIT-TBI as a center of excellence.

The Srivanikshetra Rath Yatra was adjudged the best in a recent survey conducted by the widely circulated English daily The Times of India. Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT, KISS and KIIT Temple Trust expressed his happiness and thanked the judges for selecting the Srivanikshetra Rath Yatra as the best. The survey was conducted on different parameters for more than 10 large scale Rath Yatra organized in Bhubaneswar. The Rath Yatra was organized in a very grand manner at Srivanikashetra in KISS and there was a massive gathering of devotees. There is joy among KIIT and KISS staff as Srivani Kshetra Rath Yatra won the top spot.

A team of three students from the School of Civil Engineering, KIIT-DU won the 3rd Prize at a national-level structural design competition. Jyoti Sahoo, Suraj Kumar Gouda (B.Tech students), and Soham De (M.Tech student) demonstrated their exceptional skills under the guidance of Dr. Purnachandra Saha in the competition, titled “Steel Intensive Archery Academy with Hostel,” organized by INSDAG (Institute for Steel Development and Growth), Ministry of Steel, Government of India.

Over 96 teams from prestigious institutes across India, including several IITs and NITs, participated in the competition. Through two intense rounds, the team from KIIT-DU emerged as one of the finalists, earning them the opportunity to present their design alongside 13 other exceptional teams on April 28, 2023. Their efforts were acknowledged and celebrated during the award ceremony, where they received the prestigious prize from Sri P.K. Mishra, Director General, INSDAG. Other dignitaries present at the event included Shri Amit Agrawal, Chief Business Excellence & New Project, TATA Steel, Shri Sanjay Agarwal, Executive Director (Marketing), SAIL, and a distinguished panel of jury members from renowned institutions such as IITs, NITs, and experts from the steel industry.

This remarkable achievement marks the fourth time that the KIIT students have won this prestigious award under the guidance of Dr. Purnachandra Saha.

Eminent educationist and social worker and Founder, KIIT and KISS, Prof. Achyuta Samanta has been conferred with honorary doctorate by Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Assam. He was conferred with D.Litt. by the university on the occasion of its 5th convocation ceremony. This honorary doctorate has been awarded to Prof. Samanta for his outstanding contribution to the field of education and social service. He received the honor from Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Assam. This is the 51st doctorate for Prof. Samanta. He expressed his gratitude to the authorities of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva University for the recognition. It will motivate him to do more, said Prof. Samanta. Among others, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh; Chancellor Sjt. Bhabendra Nath Deka; Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mridul Hazarika; and Registrar Prof. Mrinal Kumar Borah were present on the occasion.

Three faculties from the Department of Medicine and Department of Endocrinology of the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) shined at the 13th World Congress of Diabetes (Diabetes India 2023) at Indore from 14th to 16 th April.

The international conference was attended by more than 3,000 delegates from across the globe. Galaxies of international and national speakers delivered their talks at the meeting. The central theme for this year’s conference was “Educate –Innovate and Improve”.

While Prof. Lalatendu Mohanty ,Professor and HoD, Department of Medicine, chaired a session on “Practical Diabetology”. Topics like glycemic variability, lipid management and precision medicine were discussed in the symposium, Prof. K.P.Tripathy, Professor Department of Medicine chaired a session on “FAQ in Diabetes”, where various clinical scenarios and frequently asked questions in diabetes were discussed. Prof.(Dr) Sambit Das, Professor, Department of Endocrinology, delivered a talk on “Insulin therapy, Clinical attributes beyond efficacy” and discussed various available insulin types and co formulation and the method of initiation, optimization and intensification of insulin therapy.
