TATA Social Entrepreneurship Challenge 2021-22: KIMS Doctor Felicitated for His Innovation, ‘Sanjivani QCPR’


“Do Well By Doing Good” – was the compliment received by Dr. Ashok Kumar Badamali, Cardiac Anaesthesiologist, KIMS from Mr. Peeush Gupta, Group Vice President, Supply Chain, TATA Steel at the TATA Social Entrepreneurship Challenge (TSEC-2021-22) finalists’ felicitation at IIM Kolkata.

Out of the 6700 odd applicants in the social innovation sector, 12 were chosen as finalists after numerous grueling rounds. Dr. Badamali’s innovation “SANJIVANI QCPR”, an ergonomically designed hand held gadget with audio visual feedback in regional Indian language for resuscitation of cardiac arrest victim, was considered as one of the finalists, due to its potential for sustainable development goal agenda Good Health & Well Being (3) and Life on Earth (15).

The innovation conceptualized at KIMS, Developed in KIIT TBI and supported by Startup Odisha, DST, NRDC, ILS Bhubaneswar and AMTZ Visakhapatnam got the visibility and connection at national level with foundations like TATA Group, IIM Kolkata Innovation Park, Buddha Foundation Social Alpha & Karo Sambhab after the Innovation challenge. Dr. Badamali explained the audiences, how, during a CPR training for general public at KIMS, five ladies told him the need for a device to facilitate common public during resuscitation of cardiac arrest victim in the absence of any health care worker, as they are feeling pain in palm during manual chest compression.

For Public awareness, a prototype of India’s first Public CPR KIOSK was demonstrated at KIMS on 16th October 2021.The unmet need of the society was empathized and products were developed. Now the products have taken the shape of social innovations. All dignitaries praised the opportunities provided by KIIT-DU to a doctor for health care and social innovation. All the foundation officials assured Dr. Badamali that any health care related or social innovation will be supported by them and scale up will not be an issue.
