Thirty One students from the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) received the prestigious Rajya Puraskar in the Bharat Scouts and Guides for the year 2023-24 by the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, Shri Raghubar Das. The Rajya Puraskar exam (Rajyapuraskar) is part of the Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) Programme, which aims to develop young people into responsible citizens through a range of activities, skills, and service. The Rajya Puraskar Award is one of the highest honours a Scout or Guide achieves at the state level.
This exam involves a structured evaluation process aimed at testing the knowledge, skills, and values of Scouts and Guides. The examination pattern includes both practical and theoretical components. In the practical section, candidates demonstrated their skills in areas like knotting, first aid, mapping, camping, and pioneering, along with physical fitness tests. They are also required to submit reports on community service projects undertaken by them. The theoretical part involves written tests on Scout/Guide Laws, the Promise, and general knowledge of the Scout and Guide Movement. After successful completion of practical examination, candidates are awarded the Rajya Puraskar Badge and certificate by a state official, usually the Governor and other prominent state officials, recognizing their leadership, community service, and adherence to the principles of Scouting and Guiding.
The Award Ceremony at the New Abhishek Hall at the Raj Bhavan, was also graced by Dr. Minati Behera, esteemed Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW), and Dr. K.P. Mishra, National Vice President and State Chief Commissioner, Odisha.
