Workshop on 3D Printing

A two-day workshop on ‘Healthcare 3D Printing and its Engineering Applications’ was conducted by the Department of Science & Technology, Start-up Odisha, KIIT-TBI and Altem Technology. Dr. Ashok Kumar Badamali, Senior Consultant, Cardiac Anesthesiologist covered the topic ‘Role of 3D printing in healthcare education, medical simulation, surgical planning and crisis management’. Dr. Badamali said that nature has the best 3D printers like weaver bird, termite house, honeycomb and development of fetus from zygote. The 3D printing should take inspiration from nature. This inspiration will boost the future bio-printing in terms of angiogenesis, lymphatics, neuro-humoral connectivity and finally organ printing for transplant, he added.
