A three-day Online International Conference on ‘Advances in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (ICAMIE 2020)’, organized by the School of Mechanical Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University, was inaugurated on 11th December 2020. Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Prof. Muhamad Mat Noor, Professor, UMP, Malaysia spoke on the role of technical institutions in a prospering society. “I have been moved by the success story of KIIT and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), and its founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta, who is a great humanitarian, an entrepreneur and a parliamentarian”, he said.
In his address, Prof. Hrushikesh Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT elaborated on the theme of the conference and role of research and innovation in sustaining the manufacturing sector. The ICAMIE 2020 Proceedings was released by the guests on the virtual platform. Prof. B. C. Routara, Dean, SME, KIIT (Chairman, ICAMIE 2020) delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Suchismita Satapathy, Convener presented a brief report on the conference. Among others, Prof. Purna Chandra Mishra, Dean (Research), SME (Co-chairman, ICAMIE 2020); Prof. Smita Rani Panda, Co-convener, delegates from India and abroad, and faculty members and students of the School of Mechanical Engineering were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Coordinated by Prof. Swarup Nayak, Prof. Amlana Panda, Prof. Nitin Sharma, Prof. Rasmi Ranjan Behera, Prof. Manoj Ukamanal, Prof. Anish Pandey, Ms. Nayan Arora, the inaugural ceremony was conducted successfully on the virtual platform. Following the inaugural session, the first keynote address on ‘Additive Manufacturing: Transformation to Digital Manufacturing’ was delivered by Mr. Janardanan Venkat, General Manager, Redington India Limited. He elaborated on the evolution of Industry 4.0 in the current scenario. He spoke about the rapid manufacturing of Ventilator parts needed due to the spread of COVID19 in the past six months and the pioneering contribution of Redington in this regard. Prof. Sudesna Roy moderated this interactive session, which was appreciated by one and all.
