KIIT School of Computer Engineering Organizes 2nd Digital Data Science Conclave on “Role of Data Science for Societal Applications”

The 2nd Digital Data Science Conclave 2021 was organized by Data Science Group, School of Computer Engineering, KIIT-DU. Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Conclave, Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU cited a recent application of data science of delivery of Covid vaccine at a remote location of Loktak lake with the help of drones using Data Science techniques to precisely identify the location of people. Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU mentioned Data Science as the most upcoming application with a Case Study of github.com having a data repository that can be very useful for automation of Software Development.

Prof. Biswajit Sahoo, Director, SCE informed that around 28 invited speakers are part of the conclave out of which 17 are alumni speakers and 11 are eminent speakers from different parts of the globe. The selected talks will be published by Springer, he added. Prof. Samaresh Mishra, Director Student Affairs praised the Data Science Group members for the conduction of 2nd DDSC2021. The brief journey of the Data Science Group along with its achievements was informed by group mentor Dr. Manjusha Pandey. The word of thanks for the inaugural session was given by Mr. Indrashis Das, one of the alumni coordinators of Data Science Group currently working as Product Analyst-AI at High Radius Technologies, Bhubaneswar.

The first technical session of the Conclave had speakers like Mr. Amit Kumar Gupta, Senior Data and Applied Science at Microsoft; Mr. Kalipada Tripathy, Data Scientist, Rakuten, Tokyo, Japan; Prof. Rabinarayan Subudhi, Senior Professor KSOM, KIIT-DU; Mr. Anand Ota, Director, Product Management, High Radius Technologies; and Mr. Vineet Ganatra, Senior Consultant, Deloitte US India. Mr. Gupta explained Data Visualization using rules like Tufte’s Graphical Integrity Rules. Different aspects of Data and Information processing along with New Data Models were discussed by Mr. Tripathy. Prof. Subudhi showed the study of Social Development Data and Societal Modelling in the Indian Context. Mr. Ota discussed the Ml- Decoded for a common business person, while Mr. Ganatra presented the Digital Workforces Assets that humanize technologies. The Technical Session-I was coordinated by faculty coordinators, Prof. Krishna Chakravarty, Prof. Santwana Sagnika, Dr. Rabindra K. Barik, along with student coordinators Shilpi Raj and Abir Mishra.

At the second technical session, Dr. Sandeep Singh Sengar, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Machine Learning, CSE, University of Copenhagen, Denmark spoke on how deep learning acted as a breakthrough in medical images. The next speaker, Mr. Kashyap Barua, Product Analyst at MiQ, India presented the role of data science in programmatic advertising. Mr. Amay Athaley, BI Engineer at Amazon, spoke on the importance of business intelligence in data science.

Mr. Debanjan Banerjee, Data Science Associate, from ZS Associates; Ms. Anindita Banerji, MA, Social Work (TISS); and Ms. Arunita Banerji, MBA, Big Data Analytics, from Fore School of Management presented on the topic, ‘Appealing AI in Appalling Covid-19 Crisis – And The Impending’. Mr. Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Chief Technology Officer, Terenz.AI, from Bhusan, South Korea presented on ‘Artificial Intelligence: The Backbone Powering UAV and Satellite Surveillance Delivery’. The second technical session was coordinated by faculty coordinators Prof. Bindu Agarwal, Prof. Shital Dash, Mr. Biswaranjan Acharya and student coordinators, Mr. Debadrito Das and Mr. Pritish Sen.
