KIIT Society of Civil Engineers (KSCE) hosted the first session of Speak and Search on 9th August 2023, in association with ICE and ASCE KIIT Student Chapters. The Chief Speaker for the session was Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Associate Professor, KIIT School of Civil Engineering. The event was graced with the presence of Dr. Sanjib Moullick, Dean School of Civil Engineering, Dr. Madhu Lisha Pattanaik, Faculty Advisor KSCE, and the benevolent faculties of the department. The session started by welcoming dignitaries and the scintillation of the lamp.
The Chief Speaker started the session by citing examples of some famous quotes by none other than billionaire business magnate, Bill Gates. Sir, then proceeded to explain the dynamics between an employer and employee, and how both positions are equally important and depend on our decision. He simplified the term Entrepreneurship, as the starting of a new business or the readiness to run a business with some new ideas maybe by replacing old ideas/methods. The three main stages of Entrepreneurship could be deduced to be Knowledge, Innovation and Leadership.
He explained the risk factors that could develop in the initial stages of starting an enterprise. Civil engineering is one of the oldest disciplines in the world and the idea might just have been initiated from the very basic thought of providing a roof over one’s head. Acharya Sir then proceeded to talk about the various Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Construction Industries and explained how small-scale industries are rapidly evolving in today’s world.
He discussed the various small-scale industries that have emerged in the construction market in recent times, namely: Fly Ash Bricks, Lightweight Bricks, RCC Choukaths and Jallies, Ferro Cement, Precast Industry, Prestressed Industry, Hume Pipe Making Industry, Paver Block Making Industry, Earthquake Resistant Brick Making Industry, Grill Making Industry, Void Former Making Industry, Ready Mix Concrete-Batching Plants and Bridge Bearing Making Industry. He also talked about the various options and advantages of working as a Consultant, Contractor or Builder. It was a very informative session. The audience was inclusive of second, third, and fourth-year students, who were thoroughly invested in the entire proceeding of the seminar.
