Keeping in mind the latest public health emergencies around the globe a seminar was conducted by faculties of KINS on the topic “ ZIKA VIRUS AWARENESS” – An update. The seminar was held at KIDS, auditorium on 29th February, 2016 from 2pm to 5.30pm. 1st year & 2nd year B. Sc. (N) students along with 1st year M. Sc. students participated in the seminar. The theme of the seminar was unfolded & inaugurated by Prof. Mrs. Amrita Lenka. Welcome address to all participants & faculties was delivered by Lecturer (CON) Mr. Chandan Pradhan followed by the scientific sessions. Pre-test was done for 150 participants from 2.15pm to 2.30pm.
1st session started with the Introduction of Zika virus, virology & current scenario by Ms Sujata Mohapatra as the first speaker from 2.30pm to 3pm. Second speaker Mrs Pramila Baxla discussed regarding mode of transmission, reproduction of Virus acquired vectors, signs & symptoms and complication from 3pm to 3.30pm. Third session was taken up by Mrs Nibedita Mohanty regarding Diagnosis, treatment & prevention modalities of Zika from 3.30pm to 4pm. Mrs Sadhna Priyadarshini continued the 4th session, highlighting the occurrence regarding risk of Zika Virus in paediatrics groups from 4pm to 4.30pm, followed by refreshment for all participants. Final session was delivered by Ms Anusaya Behera focused on India’s readiness to meet Zika challenge from 4.45pm to 5.15pm, Post test was done at 5.15pm. Session was closed with concluding remarks of the Principal (CON), KINS. Vote of thanks was given by Ms Sukriti Biswas (MSc Nursing 1st year student).
The seminar was found to be effective as evidenced by test score being 83% compared to pre-test score of 55%.
