KINS NSS Unit Organizes Awareness Programme on ‘Violence Against Women’

KINS NSS UNIT in association with Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd. and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation organized an awareness programme on “Violence against Women” on 24th March 2021. Total 400 students and faculties participated in this programme through offline and virtual mode.

Delivering the keynote address on ‘Gender Equality’ at the webinar, Ms. B. Radhika, Additional Director General, Narcotics Bureau Sashastra Seema Bal said that a girl is not the one who often plays with toys. Rather she should be given a free hand to choose her own life so that she can convert the impossible to possible. Ms. Sarita Patel, Regional Director, Directorate of NSS, Bhubaneswar spoke about obstacles faced by women for achieving equality, development of the workplace as well as the fulfillment of women, girls and human rights.

Dr. Surekha Sundari Swain, SNO, Deputy Secretary, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha emphasized that men and women should be inspired to come forward and fight for their rights. She also highlighted women’s plight from their birth to death and stressed that girls need to be independent enough to live her own dream with her own earning. Dr. Sarojini Brahma, Technical Consultant, Child Marriage & Girl Empowerment Program, Women & Child Department expressed concern about the sorry the state of affairs on women and child abuse, molestation and sexual abuse.

Speaking at the webinar, Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Student Counselling, KIIT-DU highlighted the problem of women abuse and increased incidence of domestic violence during Covid-19. She emphasized that men and women both are equal like two sides of the same coin. Dr. Kajal Parashar, Deputy Director CEC, Program Coordinator, NSS Bureau, KIIT-DU & Associate Professor, School of Applied Sciences focused on violence and discrimination against women in the society.

Earlier, Professor (Mrs.) A. Lenka, Principal, KINS placed the welcome address. An enthralling role-play was staged on domestic violence, female foeticide and acid attacks against women by B.Sc. Nursing 2ndyear NSS volunteers. The programme was anchored by Ms. Akansha Tripti Horo, a 2nd year M.Sc. Nursing student. Ms. Truptimayee Das, Tutor & Programme Officer, KINS NSS Unit proposed the vote of thanks.
