On 12th August 2025, the NSS Unit of KIIT School of Mechanical Engineering (SME) and School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE) conducted an Anti-Ragging Awareness Program with the theme ‘Together for a Ragging-Free Future’, reflecting the volunteers’ enthusiasm and dedication to fostering a safe, ragging-free campus through meaningful induction programs.
The program aimed to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment. It highlighted the university’s zero-tolerance stance on ragging while sensitizing students to its legal, social, and ethical implications.
The event was graced by Dr. Maringanti Himabindu, Professor at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Odisha, who joined as the Chief Guest. In her address, Dr. Himabindu emphasized the values of empathy, respect, and responsible behavior among students. She highlighted the seriousness of ragging-related issues through real-life examples and urged students to stand united against any form of harassment. Her speech, blending firmness with compassion, inspired participants to actively contribute to building a ragging-free campus culture. She also led a pledge-taking ceremony, where all students vowed to uphold a ragging-free environment within the campus.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. B. Surekha, Dean – SME and Dr. Mrutyunjay Jena, Dean – SAE, reaffirmed the schools’ commitment to student welfare and discipline. The session further highlighted the institutional support systems available to students, including counseling services, peer mentorship programs, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
Dr. Prabhat Kumar Rout, Program Coordinator, NSS Bureau, KIIT-DU, and Dr. Smruti Ranjan Das, Liaison Officer, NSS, KIIT-DU, highlighted the severe impact of ragging on the mental health and well-being of victims, stressing how it can lead to long-term psychological and social consequences. They urged students to remain vigilant, spread awareness, and collectively work towards preventing any such practices, thereby fostering a safe and supportive campus environment.
An interactive session provided students with the opportunity to ask questions and share their perspectives, fostering open dialogue and a deeper understanding of the Anti-Ragging Act. NSS volunteers actively contributed to organizing and coordinating the program, ensuring its smooth execution while motivating student participation.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Smitarani Panda, Program Officer – NSS for SME & SAE, who expressed her gratitude to the Chief Guest, faculty members, office staff, NSS volunteers, and students for their active participation and commitment to upholding KIIT’s inclusive environment, reaffirming the collective resolve to achieve a ragging-free future.
