The Department of Taxation and Department of Social Sciences & Humanities of KIIT School of Social, Financial & Human Sciences jointly organised a panel discussion on “Decoding Financial Bill 2022”. The panelists for the event were Dr. Pravas Mishra, Research & Knowledge Management Division of Oxfam India, an international development organization, and Mr. Soham Bandhopadhya, Associate, Athena Law Associates.
Dr. Mishra highlighted key proposals of the government that were discussed in the budget along with the concerns and repercussions on various sectors. The speaker also addressed the issues with respect to limited allocation to social service schemes like MGNREGA. Mr. Bandhopadhya discussed the proposed amendments which might be introduced in the Income Tax Act of 1961 and its implications on the existing tax regime of our country. The speaker also discussed about the repercussions of taxation of crypto currency which can be a precursor to legalization of crypto-currency in the near future
The session was attended by the students of Taxation Honors and students of BA stream. Dr. Amar Kumar Mohanty and Dr. Bineet Kedia were the Convenors, while Dr. Snigdha Sarkar, Mr. Satya Narayan Jena and Mr. Prateek Mishra coordinated the panel discussion.
