Training on Online Freelancing Conducted for KISS-DU Students

The “Ready for Online Freelancing” training was successfully conducted for the UG and PG students of the Computer Science Department, School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science and Technology, KISS Deemed to be University on 29th October 2024. The workshop aimed to equip the students with the necessary skills and knowledge to embark on a career in online freelancing. The training sessions were led by experienced faculty members who had previously undergone a “Training of Trainers” program on 12th and 13th August 2024.

Mr. Deepak Kumar Baral conducted a session to introduce the students to the basics of online freelancing, throwing light on the benefits and challenges. Mr. Baral emphasised the importance of self-discipline, time management, and setting realistic goals.

Mr. Dipti Ranjan Behera guided students through the initial steps of starting an online freelancing career. He covered topics such as creating a professional profile, identifying potential freelancing platforms, and understanding the market demand. Ms. Nilima Samanta highlighted the essential skills required for successful freelancing. She focused on communication skills, technical proficiency, and adapting to different client requirements. Dr. Mamata Garanayak provided insights into building and maintaining a competitive freelancing profile. She discussed strategies for showcasing skills, obtaining positive reviews, and continuously improving one’s portfolio.

Speaking in turn, Mr. Atul Nag highlighted the importance of maintaining decent and fair working conditions in the freelancing industry. He spoke about setting fair rates, understanding contracts, and ensuring a healthy work-life balance.

The students received the training well by actively participating in the sessions and engaging with the speakers. The comprehensive coverage of topics gave the students a solid foundation to start their journey in online freelancing. The faculty’s prior training ensured the sessions were informative and delivered effectively.
