Department of Mathematics, School of Indigenous Knowledge Science and Technology (SIKST), KISS-DU organized a Distinguished Invited Talk on “Transportation Problem and its optimal solution” on 27th October 2025. Dr. Soumyendra Mishra, Reader in Mathematics, Prananath College (Auto), Khurda was invited as the esteemed guest for the event.
The session was chaired by Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Kashi Nath Jena, KISS-DU, Additional Director, Student Affairs Mr. Subhendu Kumar Mohany, faculty members of SIKST research scholars and students. Inhis welcome address, Professor Jena spoke about the significance of holding talks on such pertinent topic and presented a brief introduction of the esteemed speaker.
Dr. Soumyendra Mishra explained how mathematics plays a vital role in reducing transportation cost. He explained about the formation of a transportation matrix by different methods like, row minima method, column minima method, matrix minima method, east coast corner method, vogel’s approximation method for finding the basic feasible solution of a transportation problem. Dr. Mishra emphasized how to optimize (maximize or minimize) the basic feasible solution by using UV method and MODI method. The session was followed by a question and answer session.
Dr. Pankajini Tripathy, Head, Department of Mathematics also spoke on the occasion. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Susanta Kumar Mohaptra, Assistant Professor, Mathematics, SIKST.
