KISS-DU Organizes Distinguished Invited Lecture on “Welfare Discourse in India”

The Department of Political Science, School of Tribal Culture, Philosophy and Eco-Spiritualism, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, KISS-DU jointly hosted a Distinguished Invited Lecture on “Welfare Discourse in India” on 14th November 2025. Professor Prakash C. Sarangi, Former Vice Chancellor, Ravenshaw University and Former Professor of Political Science, University of Hyderabad graced the occasion as the resource person.

In his deliberation, Professor Sarangi opined that social welfare was adding a new dimension to governance in today’s India. As the focus has shifted decisively from regulation to development, more particularly in the area of public administration and public policy. He added that welfare discourse has become a very important topic of discussion. The talk touched upon how the main focus of welfare discourse in India has changed over the years and has come a long way from the days of paternalistic welfare to responsive welfare. He stressed on the need for maintaining the balance between growth and social development.
