A Distinguished Invited Lecture was Jointly Organised by Department of Chemistry, School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science and Technology (IKST), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Centre for Indigenous Science and Technology (CIST), KISS-DU in collaboration with Department of Chemistry, Centre for Development and Innovation CCNY, City University of New York, USA on “Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy: For the Study of Natural Products and Soft Organic Materials” on 7th November 2024. This event was organized as a part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between KISS Deemed to be University and Center for Development and Innovation, CCNY, City University of New York, USA.
Prof. (Dr.) Padmanava Pradhan, Department of Chemistry, Centre for Development and Innovation CCNY, City University of New York, USA was the distinguished invited speaker.
The program commenced with lighting of the lamp. Dr. Tanushree Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, KISS-DU, introduced the topic and highlighted various applications of NMR spectroscopy in both everyday life and scientific research.
Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU in his welcome address underscored the importance of the MoU, emphasizing collaborative research in ethno-medicine and joint educational initiatives that benefit students of both universities. Following this, Dr. Bikram Keshari Das, Assistant Professor, introduced Dr. Pradhan was an eminent scientist with an excellent publication and citation record.
In his lecture, Dr. Pradhan presented the fundamental concepts of NMR spectroscopy and its diverse applications. He highlighted plant-based natural products and explained how NMR spectroscopy aids in studying natural products and soft molecules. Additionally, Dr. Pradhan discussed Li-ion battery technology and the potential of natural products as cathode materials.
The session concluded with an active round of discussion and a formal vote of thanks offered by Dr. Srinibas Panda, Dean, School of IKST.
