KINS Observes World Alzheimer’s Day

World Alzheimer’s Day is observed every year on 21st September to raise awareness about the severity of the disease and Dementia. Alois Alzheimer, a German Psychiatrist, identified the disease for the first time in 1901.  

On the occasion, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) organized an e – Seminar on the theme “Together We can Ensure no one Faces Dementia Alone” on 21st September 2021. It was graced by Prof. Amarita Lenka, Professor, KINS; Prof. Niyati Das, Principal (I/C); and Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal. Welcoming the dignitaries and participants, Professor Lenka highlighted Dr. Alois Alzheimer’s pioneering work in linking the psychological symptoms with microscopic brain changes and also the disease burden in the present context.

In her talk titled “Journey of Alzheimer’s Disease”, Mrs. Reena Singh, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Mental Health Nursing, KINS explained the relation of genes with the disease, progress of Alzheimer’s disease along with clinical manifestations. Dr. Sudipta Kumar Das, Associate Prof, Dept of Psychiatry, KIMS emphasized “Understanding and Managing Dementia”, both in clinical set up as well at home. Mrs. Mridula Saikia Khanikor, former Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi Technological & Medical Sciences, Arunachal Pradesh spoke on “Getting Help for Alzheimer’s Care Giving”.

Students from M.Sc 1st  Year, B.Sc 3rd year & 2nd year, GNM 2nd year and the faculty members of KINS participated in the programme. It was moderated by Ms. Disha Sinha, M.Sc 1st year student. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Soudamini Biswal, Tutor, KINS.
