New born is the new beginning to the challenges ahead in life but when there is an emergency immediately after birth the challenges multiply numerous times. So tackle this challenges is the need of the hour for which an extensive three days seminar on “High Risk Newborn Management” was organized by Dept. of Paediatric & final year M.Sc. nursing students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences from dt. 18th Nov. to 21st Nov 2019 at KIMS Auditorium. The aim of the seminar was to impart knowledge and develop skills on high risk newborn MANAGEMENT for the M. Sc (N) 1st yr, B.Sc (N) 4th yr, B.Sc (N) 3rd yr, GNM 2nd yr and 3rd yr students. The programme was inaugurated at 2 pm with lighting the lamp by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT followed by unfolding the theme by Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice- Principal, KINS, KIIT. Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda, Neonatologist, PBMH, KIMS. Dr. Panda highlighted on prioritizing the management of high risk newborn care.
The scientific session was started at 2.30 pm by Ms. Subrata Behera, M. Sc (N) 2nd yr KINS with the topic Identification and classification of high risk newborn: Pre term, low birth weight, IUGR, Post mature. The next topic on Nutritional needs was discussed by Ms. Diptimayee Naik, M. Sc (N) 2nd yr, Prenatal Diagnostic Testing was highlighted by Ms. Aditi Bose M. Sc (N) 2nd yr, complications of preterm baby: Birth asphyxia, Respiratory distress elaborated by Mrs. Jasnarani Behera, M. Sc (N) 2nd yr, Diabetic mother and Hypoglycemia was discussed by Ms. Champabati Hansdah M. Sc (N) 2nd yr.The 2nd day of scientific session was reviewed by Mrs. Jayasmin Mohanty, Tutor, KINS. The first topic on birth injuries, Me conium aspiration syndrome was highlighted by Ms. Salma Soren M. Sc (N) 2nd yr. Neonatal seizures focused by Ms. Debojita Chatterjee, M. Sc (N) 2nd yr, Pneumothorax, Neonatal hypocalcaemia, Hypo magnesia wasdiscussed by Mr. Rajdeep Majumdar M. Sc (N) 2nd yr, Ophthalmic neonatrum, Congenital syphilis
