A district-level study-cum-training camp was organized by the Youth Red Cross (YRC) Odisha State Branch at Raja Madhusudan Dev Degree College, Patia, from November 22 to 24, 2024. The event aimed to promote awareness and skills among youth volunteers, emphasizing service, safety, and sustainability. Four students from KIIT University actively participated in this enriching camp which includes a B.Sc. Nursing 5th Semester student, Sinjit Mukherjee
The camp commenced on November 22 with registration at 9:00 AM, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony and a vibrant opening ceremony. The first day featured training sessions on the history and principles of the Red Cross by Mr. Laxmi Prasad Mishra and disaster management by Sri Gulsan Kumar. Participants showcased their creativity during a debate competition and later enjoyed a cultural program in the evening.
On the second day, activities started early with yoga at 6:00 AM, followed by a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan drive. Training sessions covered critical topics such as first aid by Sri Laxman Swain, climate change and women empowerment by Dr. Girish Prasad Swain, and voluntary blood donation motivation by Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra. Participants again took part in cultural activities like singing competition and skit drama program to conclude the day.
The final day began with yoga and a mass rally promoting cleanliness. Thereafter a drawing competition on the topic of “Know AIDS to No AIDS” was conducted and then a quiz competition regarding the “Youth Red Cross and its campaign was organised”. Then there were Training sessions which focused on cyber safety by Insp. BanitaMoharana, road safety by Mr. Dillip Kumar Panda, and the role of youth as agents of behavioral change by Prabin Kumar Sahoo. The camp concluded with a valedictory session where many dignitaries were present. Dr. Kalpana Ma’am was the chief guest in that session. Then there was also a prize distribution ceremony, and there Sinjit Mukherjee, B.Sc Nursing 5th Semester student got second prize in debate competition. Followed by a humble message from the dignitaries, the event concluded there.
The event successfully inspired youth to embrace the fundamental principles of the Red Cross, develop life-saving skills, and contribute to social welfare. It underscored the transformative role young volunteers play in addressing contemporary challenges.
