The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) organized a workshop and CME (Continuing Medical Education) on 3rd Space Endoscopy on 28th May 2022. Dr. Vikas Singla, a pioneer in this field from Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, was the invited guest faculty along with Dr. Sawan Bopanna.
The workshop started with a welcome address by Prof. A.C. Anand, Head of Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology which was followed by a lecture on fundamentals of third space endoscopy by Dr. Vikas Singla. Subsequently, per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) was performed on two patients with Achalasia cardia under the supervised guidance of Dr. Singla. It was followed by a CME on esophageal motility disorders and third space endoscopy. The CME commenced with an inaugural address by Prof. S.K. Acharya, Pro-Chancellor, KIIT-DU followed by didactic lectures on esophageal motility disorders and third space endoscopy in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, KIMS which was attended by various faculties and post graduate students.
This was one of the regular attempts of KIMS, as part of KIIT Deemed to be University, to provide all kinds of high end medical services to patients of Eastern India through experience and expertise. Besides the above procedures, the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology also provides all the state of the art outpatient, inpatient and endoscopic services. It is headed by Prof AC Anand under the able guidance of Prof SK Acharya; and Prof YK Chawla (Chairman of Academics, KIMS). Besides, Dr SC Panigrahi, Dr B Mallick, Dr Preetam Nath and Dr D Praharaj are other faculty members of this department.
