KIMS Hosts Ground-breaking EUS 360 Program, Pioneering Gastroenterology Education in India

The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and commitment to continuous development in the medical field, has once again made headlines by organizing the ground-breaking Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) 360 program. This event, held on January 20 and 21, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the field of gastroenterology training and education in India.

EUS 360, described as ‘the first of its kind’, was meticulously planned and executed by the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at KIMS. The program’s agenda was comprehensive, featuring six didactic lectures that covered the science and technology behind EUS, detailed studies of anatomy, insightful discussions on becoming a proficient endosonographer, and a look into future advancements in the field.

A key highlight of the program was the hands-on training sessions, designed to provide practical experience to the participants. The primary objective of EUS 360 was to establish an updated platform for young and enthusiastic gastroenterologists from various regions of India. This initiative aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills, which is essential for the effective management of liver and digestive disorders in the country.

An exceptional aspect of the program was the interactive sessions led by two eminent figures in the field of EUS – Dr. Vikash Singla and Dr. Jayanta Samata. Their involvement added significant value to the learning experience, offering participants the opportunity to engage with leaders in gastroenterology.

This initiative is a testament to KIMS’ dedication, under KIIT-DU University, to disseminate advanced endoscopic skills, particularly in EUS. The program aligns with the broader goal of continued medical education in interventional endoscopy, facilitating the spread of advanced technological benefits to patients not just within the state but across India.

The conference’s success is attributed to the relentless efforts of Prof. Dr.Subrat Kumar Acharya (Pro Chancellor of KIIT University and Professor Emeritus, KIMS) and Prof. Yogesh Kumar Chawla (Chairman of Academics and Professor Emeritus, KIMS). Their vision is to transform the region into a hub for research and education in gastroenterology.

The program’s importance was further amplified by the involvement of Prof. Manoj Kumar Sahu (HOD, Dept. of Gastroenterology and the Course Director), Prof. AC Anand, Dr.Preetam Nath (Organizing Secretary), Dr. SC Panigrahi (Organizing Chairman), and the Department of Anesthesia, including Dr. Ganesh Chandra Satapthy, Dr. Amit Pradhan, Dr. Soumyashree Prusti, and Dr. Subhaprada Satapathy.

The program was endorsed by the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in India (SGEI) and the Indian EUS Club.
