KIMS Hospital Starts Palliative Care Clinic

A Palliative Care (PC) Clinic will be inaugurated at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) on 10th February 2021. Palliative Care includes a wide range of services for the cancer patients both in early and late stages of illness. Along with cancer treatments, the Clinic will improve the physical and psychosocial aspects of living. In advanced cancer stages, PC Clinic helps in relieving pain and symptoms of the body and mind. The cancer patient’s family caregivers become a part of the palliative care process.

The Clinic will provide out-patient care by trained and experienced doctors, nurses and other specialists. Prof. Bidhu K Mohanty, Director, KIMS Cancer Center and HOD, Radiotherapy, KIMS, and Dr. Rajendra Kumar Sahoo, consultant, Pain Medicine, KIMS will be available for consultation. Along with cancer treatment, this team will focus on pain, physical symptoms and psychosocial care for the quality of life of the cancer patients.

It has been seen that patients with serious illness like cancer, who receive palliative care, and their family caregivers gain medical and social benefits in their daily living.
