KIMS Doctors’ New ICMR Project Receives Sanction

A project on “Comprehensive Tribal TB Management for Decentralized TB Care Services-2021-6328” formulated by Dr. Sonali Kar of KIMS has received the final sanction and the budget is due to be released by August 2022. Dr. Kar as PI has been vested with the Koraput district. The two-year project warrants the team to work with the State and District administration to upscale TB case detection and prompt management in selected prone tribal blocks of Koraput.

The multi-centric project was approved after a meticulous review by the Central TB Division and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to 11 PIs. Two other PIs from Odisha are Prof Dr. Venkat Rao from Bhubaneswar, who will look after Keonjhar, and Dr. Paromjit Panda, also from Bhubaneswar, who will look after Sundergarh district.

The budget is nearly 32 lakh and is the 2nd ICMR project with Dr. Sonali Kar. She is already doing the ICMR-sanctioned Extramural Project, “Interventional study to improve male participation in Contraception in two districts of Odisha- Koraput and Boudh”, besides the much coveted NARI supervised series of Covovax trials
