KIMS Celebrates World Stroke Day

All over the world 29th October was observed as World Stroke Day. The Department of Neurology, KIMS organized a meeting to mark the occasion. The chief speaker, Dr. Vikram Huded, Chief of Neurology, Narayana Hospital Bangalore and a pioneer of neuro-intervention, shared his experience on current status and latest advancement in stroke intervention.

The aim of the program was to start stroke intervention in KIMS Hospital and build a comprehensive stroke center. The meeting was attended by Director General of KIMS, Dr. P. K. Pattnaik; Medical Superintendent, Prof. R. C. Das; Principal, Prof. Ambica Mohanty and Heads of Department, nurses and other members of the Neurology Department.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Santosh Dash, Assistant Professor from the Neurology Department said, time is crucial and every minute delay can put the patient in a life threatening situation, permanent disability and heavy burden to the family. Everyone should know the signs of stroke and patients should reach within the golden hour period of 4.5 hours from the stroke onset, he added.

The talk was followed by interaction between the speaker and faculty members. A discussion on stroke with stroke patients’ attendants was also held and fruit packets distributed to patients.
