Department of Anatomy, KIMS Organizes CME-cum-Workshop

A CME-cum-Workshop was organized by the Department of Anatomy, under the aegis of Anatomical Society of India, Odisha State Chapter, in KIMS through Hybrid Mode. The Topic of the CME was “Soft Embalming Technique in Cadaver for hands-on practice and conduction of Surgical Workshop”.

The session was presided by Prof.Madhusmita Panda, Ex –President & Secretary ASI, Odisha state chapter. Prof.S.N Shamal, Prof & HOD Anatomy, President ASI, Odisha State Chapter chaired the Academic session with Prof B.K.Dutta as  CME-Coordinator.

The CME was inaugurated byProf. Ambika Prasad Mohanty, Principal, KIMS, while the Invited speaker was Prof.T.C.Singel, HOD, Dr. M.K.Shah Medical College & Research Centre, Ahmedabad. The guest speaker for the CME was Prof. Tanmoy Mohanty, HOD, Orthopedic & Trauma care, KIMS while Prof.C.B.K.Mohanty, Pro Vice-Chancellor, KIMS, BBSR graced the occasion, who also was an Advisor of the CME.

Following the welcome address by the Principal Prof. A. P. Mohanty and Prof.C.B.K.Mohanty, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KIMS, Prof T.C.Singel was felicitated by Pro Vice Chancellor. The academic session began with the introduction of Invited & Guest speakers by Prof.B.K.Dutta, CME Coordinator.

Prof. T.C. Singel, as Invited speaker-described the basics of embalming technique to be used for  Soft embalming procedure of human cadaver for easy storage which is also cost-effective. The online Q & A Session with interactive clarification by Prof. T.C.Singel and Prof. Srijit Das, from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman was informative.

Prof. Tanmoy Mohanty, HOD, Orthopedic & Trauma care with his lucid presentation analyzed the Clinical application of both soft embalming & the virtual digital anatomy as incorporated in Anatomage Table. The advantage of establishing a skill lab with soft embalming cadavers, which can be utilized for training of young surgeons and demonstration for PG/Residents will be highly rewarding, he said.

Prof. Srijit Das, Clinical Anatomy, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman was connected online as special guest and contributed with his suggestion. In his concluding remark, Prof. S.N. Shamal, Chairman of the academic session described the benefits of gross dissection and soft embalming procedure for better demonstration of anatomy for students to learn operative procedure.

The CME ended with the Vote of Thanks by Prof. Smruti Rekha Mohanty, Anatomy, KIMS. As many as 30 delegates attended physically and 118 delegates attended online out of which 97 were from medical colleges outside the State.
