Chart and Model Making Competition for First Year MBBS Students in KIMS

As a part of Innovative Teaching Learning, Department of Anatomy, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) organized a “Chart and Model Making Competition” for First year MBBS, Batch (2024-25) on 19th April 2025 under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Prajna Paramita Samanta, Professor & HOD, Anatomy.

The objectives of the event were to engage students with interactive Anatomy models and charts for expressing various visual concepts of Anatomy, to make Anatomy learning easy, and to keep the students and faculty interested, engaged, and excited about learning Human Anatomy. To encourage the students, judges have been invited to judge the models, and prizes were given based on their assessment.

Knowledge of Anatomy is essential for safe and efficient clinical practice. There have been a lot of efforts made over recent years to promote active learning in students through innovative teaching techniques. Model making is one such type of active and self-directed learning. Model-making exercise is a tool that will help students in a deep understanding of anatomy and will also help in applying the knowledge effectively in their clinical practice.

Prof. R. C Das, Dean & Principal, KIMS attended the competition and expressed his appreciation for the students’ involvement in the competition. He also emphasized that for skillful construction of the model, not only is creativity required, but of deeper understanding of the anatomy subject is also essential

The competition came to an end with overwhelming success. Students thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the initiative, as evident by the feedback.
