World Diabetes Day Celebration at KIMS

World Diabetes Day was celebrated on 14th November, 2019 at KIMS by Department of Endocrinology. The celebration kicked off with a walkathon at 7.30 AM, which was flagged off by Dr. Dayanidhi Meher, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, in the presence of Mr. Dillip Kumar Panda, Deputy Registrar, KIMS and Mr. K. P. Dwivedi, Senior Administrative Officer. More than 200 people participated in the walkathon to spread awareness regarding the rising menace of Diabetes.

It was followed by a  free Diabetes Detection Camp organized in KIMS lobby which screened about 300 people. Simultaneously a Blood Donation Camp was organized in the Bold Bank of KIMS, where more than 40 units of blood were donated. Also “CharsiChini” the nukkadnatak, a play to raise awareness on Diabetes, its complications, prevention and care was organized in the hospital premises by the students from fifth semester.

Among the other activities, a quiz competition as well as poster presentation competition was organized at KIMS auditorium, which also included participants from other Medical Colleges from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. A dance act “Save the Girl Child, enacted by the fifth semester students was organized in the auditorium to spread the awareness regarding the Diabetes in pregnancy.

The audience were addressed by Dr. Om Prakash Panigrahi, Professor & HOD, Department of Community Medicine. Dr. Dayanidhi Meher gave a presentation on the basics of Diabetes and its prevention. This was followed by a presentation by Professor(Dr.) Sonali Kar on the impact of Diabetes on family and the role of family on taking care of Diabetes.
