Renewable Envirogic Pvt. Ltd., a company incubated at KIIT-Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI), has recently been funded by the prestigious and highly competitive grant, BIG from DBT, BIRAC, Govt. of India. This company, which is led by Directors, Mr. Debasis Tripathy, Dr. Rojalin Sahu, Associate Professor, School of Applied Sciences, KIIT-DU and Ms. Ojaswini Mishra, is recognised by Start-up Odisha as well as Start-up India. The main activity of this company is to recycle biomedical waste. It has acquired two acres of IDCO land at Cuttack, Choudwar. The foundation stone was laid by Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha on 23rd July 2021.
Now-a-days, plastics are widely used to manufacture medical tools and devices like surgical gloves, syringes, insulin pens, IV tubes, catheters, inflatable splits, etc. Biomedical waste generation from healthcare establishments is inevitably an over growing concern from an environmental point of view. This is supplemented by the statistical data generated by Odisha State Pollution Control Board, which has estimated that 1640 Kg biomedical plastic waste is generated per day in different health care facilities in the state. In fact, Renewable Envirogic Pvt. Ltd is the only authorized recycling company to recycle biomedical plastic waste in the state.
