Professor Empowers Odisha’s Women Journalists with Visual Verification Skills

Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda, Associate Dean at KIIT School of Mass Communication and a distinguished trainer with the Google News Initiative India Training Network delivered a valuable workshop on Visual Verification for Journalists on 10th July 2024. Odisha Women organized the initiative in Media (OWM) and was part of the Odisha Fact Check 2024 program. Over 30 talented women journalists from various media houses across Odisha participated in the workshop.

 

Dr. Panda’s insightful and hands-on session focused on equipping participants with the latest skills in visual verification, a critical area for journalists in today’s media landscape where misinformation is rampant. The workshop aimed to empower them to effectively combat misinformation and ensure accurate reporting.

The Odisha Fact Check 2024 program is a collaborative effort between the US Consulate General, Hyderabad, Osmania University, Hyderabad, and OWM.  Police Commissioner Mr. Sanjiv Panda, Prof. K Stevenson, and Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda were all esteemed guests at the event. Ms. Kasturi Ray, President of OWM, delivered the welcome address.

This workshop provided a valuable platform for Odisha’s women journalists to enhance their fact-checking skills and contribute to a more informed public discourse.
