A National e-Seminar on the theme “Contemporary Issues in Community Health Nursing” was organized by the Department of Community Health Nursing, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), KIIT-DU from 27th – 28th August 2020. On the concluding day, Mrs. Angel M.P. Dani, Tutor, KINS recapitulated the topics discussed on the first day.
The first session was taken by Mrs. Sasmita Nayak, Tutor, KINS on the topic “Addressing challenges and its strategies from the community health perspective”. She explained the changes in health status and care delivery due to different trends in socio-demographic, epidemiological and health care aspects. She enumerated the core elements of community health nursing and also pointed to the topics to be incorporated and reviewed for in the existing curriculum.
The most important Session of the day was taken by Dr. Rajni Peter, PhD, Research Coordinator, National Institute of Nutrition, ICMR on the topic “Addressing health care disparities, the role of diverse workforce”. She presented the current scenario of the health status of our country with respect to care delivery, manpower resources and infrastructure. “There is a huge disparity in the care delivery in terms of quality, quantity in rural areas compared to urban areas; between rich and poor states, public and private sectors”, she pointed out. She also emphasized on utilization of a diverse workforce for improving the care delivery in the urban as well as in the rural areas. The session was followed by question answers and discussion.
The third session was taken by Mrs. Trupti Rekha Swain, Assistant professor, KINS on the topic “Strategies to prevent community transmission in COVID-19 pandemic”. She described in detail the meaning of community transmission and the various strategies to follow to avoid and control this pandemic. She emphasized on following the simple non-pharmacological preventive measures like hand washing, social distancing, quarantine and isolation to be more effective in controlling community transmission of COVID-19 pandemic.
The E-Seminar ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Sarbattama Nayak.
