The School of Economics & Commerce and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of KIIT-DU organized National Conclave on Viksit Bharat@2047, on the theme: “Making AI in India & Making AI Work for India” on 14th August 2024 on the eve of Independence Day Celebration.
This event aimed to discuss how AI can contribute to India’s development goals by 2047, focusing on economic growth, environmental sustainability, social progress, and good governance. AI’s potential and integration into daily life were highlighted, emphasizing the need to balance technological advancements with human values.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar of KIIT-DU pointed out how humans are now monitored by AI. He highlighted how AI has increasingly become an integral part of daily life, influencing various aspects from convenience and efficiency to decision-making and personalization. Dr. Siddharth Swarup Rautaray, Dean of Internal Quality Assurance Cell spoke about the two sides of the themes “Making AI in India” and “Making AI Work for India”. He stated that the growth of AI is highly relevant for the country’s growth and development.
The Chief Guest of the session, Ms. Jayashree Mohanty, President, Luminous Infoways and Founding Chair, CII IWN pointed out the AI has the potential to significantly impact rural Odisha, with its diverse culture and varied economic conditions. The dignitaries released an edited book containing the research papers for scholarly use.
At the outset, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ananya Mitra, Conclave Co-Coordinator. The word of thanks was proposed by Dr. Smrutirekha Mohanty, Conclave Co-Coordinator. Six technical sessions featured paper presentations, with the best paper chosen from each session. Following this, a competition was held among these six papers, and prizes were awarded to the top three.
During the valedictory session, Dr. Himanshu Sekhar Rout, Professor of Economics, Department of Analytical and Applied Economics, Utkal University and Dr. Minati Mallick, Professor of Economics, Department of Economics, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University graced the event. Both of them stressed that the successful implementation of AI in India will depend on addressing challenges such as digital literacy, infrastructure, and connectivity. Partnerships between government, tech companies, and local communities will be crucial in making AI a transformative force in these areas. Based on the brainstorming with the experts and participants the next edition of the conclave was planned on the theme: LIFE: Lifestyle for Environment coined by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at COP 26.
