Monday Morning Talk on “Environment Reporting”

In the series of Monday Morning Talk,  senior journalist Ms. Minati Singha delivered a talk on “Environment Reporting: Issues of Climate Change” in the School of Mass Communication, KIIT Deemed to be University on November 4, 2019. She enlightened the students on various aspects of environment reporting and issues of climate change.  

Ms. Singha, a special correspondent of the Times of India, Bhubaneswar edition, has bagged several awards including the National UNFPA-Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity in 2014-15.

Ms. Singha discussed on weather reporting, environment, extreme weather conditions and issues of climate change. “Weather reporting today is much more than just giving the weather report, beyond the usual stories of heat waves in summer and monsoon related news, stories of sea erosion, climate change, extreme climate reporting are areas in which a journalist can report,” said the journalist with more than 12 years of experience.

Weather does play an important aspect in peoples’ lives she stressed adding cyclone Fani was the most read news item this year with 5 thousand views on Times portal.  She added that reporting on environment also includes stories of impacts of plastic on the environment and its impact and the policy measures taken to curb the menace.

She also encouraged the students to do their bit for the world by emulating good environment practices and influencing others with their behaviorur as well as their writings.

At the beginning, Mr. Agniva Bhowmick, introduced the guest and Ms. Soumi Banerjee, proposed the vote of thanks, both are IMCJ third semester students. Dr. B. B. Dash, Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator; Ms. Ruby Nanda, Assistant Professor; Souptik Garai, Faculty Associate and Dr. Anurag Sahu, Assistant Professor, KIIT School of Mass Communication  were also present during the talk.

Notably, Monday Morning Talk is the flagship programme of School of Mass Communication, where eminent personalities from various walks of life connect with the budding journalists.
