KIMS Professor Gets Lifetime Achievement Award

Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN) conferred the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to Prof. S. C. Dash, Emeritus Professor & HOD of Nephrology, KIMS and former Director, KIMS & PBMH at its 47th Annual Conference held in Mumbai from December 15 – 18, 2016. He was given the honour for his “pioneering contribution to the development of Nephrology in India and leadership among the renal community, which are considered to be outstanding”.

Prof. Dash spent 31 years in different faculty positions, including Professor & Head of Nephrology & Transplant Medicine in AIIMS New Delhi. He is the founder of Northern Chapter of ISN, Nephrology-Urology and Transplantation Society of SAARC countries and National Academy of Nephrology. He was awarded Senior Commonwealth Fellowship by Govt. of India and worked at five institutions in U.K. in 1992. He was then declared a visiting professor to Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith, London. Prof. Dash has been invited to U.S.A., U.K., Japan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan to deliver lectures. In 2014, he was selected by International Society of Nephrology as ‘Educational Ambassador’ to teach in foreign countries.

Considered as an original thinker and researcher who has inspired generations of students, Prof. Dash has received numerous honours from civil societies. He has about 250 national and international research publications. Dr. Dash has helped innumerable poor people to get treatment and renal transplant at AIIMS between 1976 and 2016. Indian Society of Nephrology has recognised Dr. S. C. Dash as a humanitarian physician.
