The Infection Control Week was inaugurated in virtual mode at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) on 23rd November 2020 by Major General Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Patnaik, Principal, KIMS and DG, School of Medicine and Brig. (Dr.) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, Medical Superintendent & HICC Chairman in the presence of Dr. Nipa Singh, Infection Control Officer; Col (Dr..) Lalita Kumari Patnaik, Nursing Superintendent; Col. Sussama Sahu, Additional Nursing Superintendent; Ms. A. Gowri, Deputy Nursing Superintendent; and Ms. Gitanjali Mohanta, Infection Control Nurses, Priyanka Mathews, Sonali Parida and Ranjita Sahoo.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General Prof.(Dr.) P. K. Patnaik stressed upon the importance of integrity and discipline while working in the hospital. Brig (Dr.) Ambika Prasad Mohanty urged upon all hospital personnel to make infection control activity as a part of their routine activities and Dr. Nipa Singh elaborated on the precautions to be taken to prevent hospital acquired infections, by “breaking the chain of infections”. The theme of the Infection Control Week is “Break the chain of Infection”.
Various training programmes and competitions will be held throughout the week. On 23rd November, a poster competition was held. Online quiz, ICU audit, Hand Hygiene dance and share a message contest competitions will be held during the course of the week. Besides, various public awareness programmes will be conducted throughout the week in the lobby and waiting areas for patients and their attendants.
