KIIT Quality Assurance Cell Organizes Virtual Workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’

Quality Assurance Cell, KIIT-DU organized a one-day virtual workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ on 8th March 2021. The speaker Mr. Asutosh Nanda, Lead-Tech Enabling Centre, KIIT-TBI addressed the participants on the subject and uncovered many aspects and different dimensions of IPR. The speaker touched upon various issues and perspectives like the role of a Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) and various facilities provided by TEC like information for IP development, novelty search, provisional/complete application drafting, filing Patents, Copyright, Trademark and Design. He also discussed in detail on major intellectual properties such as Patent, Copyright, Trademark and Design.

Mr. Nanda informed the participants on types of patent applications in India, PCT fees and advantages, and some of the global and national universities’ status on patents. While discussing patents, Mr. Asutosh Nanda said, “A patent is an exclusive statutory monopoly right granted for a limited period of time to the patentee by the government in exchange for full disclosure of his invention”. He also spoke on Industrial Design, kinds of Trademarks and Copyright for different works, i.e. literary, dramatic, musical and artistic.

Mr. Asutosh Nanda explained the step by step process for filing a patent and also demonstrated online how to go for novelty search and FTO search. He informed on the timeline starting from submission of application for patent to decision for grant and how to publish the work in a patent journal. While discussing Trademarks, the speaker highlighted kinds of Trademarks such as Marks on Goods, Service Marks, Certification Marks, Collective Marks, Well known Marks and Trade Names. This workshop generated a lot of interest among the participants. About 130 participants attended the workshop.

Prof. Chinmay Kumar Panigrahi, Director, Quality Assurance Cell, KIIT; Prof. Biswajit Mishra, Dean; Deans of Research from different Schools, Directors of different Schools; faculty members and Research students of KIIT-DU participated actively in this virtual workshop. Prof. Panigrahi and Prof. Mishra also spoke at the workshop. Dr. Ramesh Chandra Sethi, Assistant and faculty Coordinator, QAC, School of Law proposed the vote of thanks.
