KIIT organizes Workshop on “Coaching and Counseling”

A Workshop on “Coaching and Counseling”for the faculty coordinators, was organized by Counselling Cell of KIIT university, on 22/12/18 at Kalam Hall, Campus-7. More than 50 faculty members from different schools participated in the workshop.

The workshop started with a panel discussion on views about “Is counseling helpful?”. The panel was moderated by Dr. Anil Bajpai (Advisor, KIIT School Of Management) and the panel members were Dr. Soumya Mishra (Dept. of Physiology, KIMS), Prof. Sagar Patnaik (School of Computer Engineering), Prof. Israj Ali (School of Electronics Engineering) and Prof. Diya Sarkar (School of Law).

After the panel discussion, lighting of the lamp was done by Respected Vice Chancellor Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty. In his speech, he mentioned about the importance of bridging the generation gap in view of the changing perceptions and how the same would need to be dealt with.

Dr Sucheta Priyabadini (Director Counseling) addressed the gathering apprising them about the purpose of conducting the coaching and counseling workshop and also the academic and emotional issues faced by the students and how they should be addressed, in line with the vision of our honorable founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. Need for continuous communication with the students was emphasised in maintaining a student friendly atmosphere in the University.

Dr. Shradha Padhi (School of Management) spoke about what counseling is and how it should be carried out effectively. Dr. Shradha also covered topics like “How to coach/mentor”, “Effective coaching conversation”, “Problems in society because of generation gap”.

Dr. Pranab Mohapatra (Psychiatrist, KIMS) enlightened the gathering with Techniques of group coaching and counseling. He spoke about human behavior and perception, and different approaches in counseling.

Dr. S N Mishra (Dean, School of Management) shared some of his experiences and explained how every problem can be solved with an optimistic approach and also, the importance of changing oneself with changing times so as to remain connected with the younger generation.

The last segment was was an interactive session of all the presenters, panel members and the faculty, followed by vote of thanks by Prof. Sagar Patnaik.
