KIIT felicitated its alumnus and 9th rank holder in the UPSC Civil Services Examination Suman Saurav Mohanty at a special ceremony here on June 7, 2017. He was a 2008 batch student of B.Tech Mechanical Engineering of KIIT University.
“Suman has not only brought glory to KIIT, but also to the State of Odisha. His success will motivate and inspire coming batches of the University”, said Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder KIIT & KISS. He also felicitated his father Shri Santanu Kumar Mohanty, a retired OAS officer and mother Smt. Kabita Mohanty.
After passing out from KIIT University, Suman got job offers from Wipro and Reliance Energy through campus placement. He joined Reliance Energy and worked in this company for four years. He briefly worked with the Govt. of Odisha before joining Odisha Administrative Service (OAS). Later, he cleared UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined Indian Revenue Service (IRS). However, he was pushed by his mother to try again for Indian Administrative Service. His hard work and patience was rewarded when he secured 9th rank in his next attempt.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Suman said, “I owe my success to the blessings of God, my family, particularly my mother, and ethos and values learnt at KIIT”. Revealing that he was asked about the process of empowerment in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in the interview, he stated, “I have learnt humility and dedication from the Founder of KIIT & KISS. I am grateful to my teachers who are strict and caring at the same time. I want to see KIIT University as the top University of the world”.
Among others, Secretary, KIIT & KISS, Shri R. N. Dash, Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. P. Mathur and Registrar, Prof. Sasmita Samanta also spoke on the occasion.
