KIIT-DU Organizes FDP -2022 on “Building Humanity: Maintaining Resilience between Immediate Needs and Long Term Developmental Goals”

KIIT Deemed to be University organized Faculty Development Programme-2022 on the theme “Building Humanity: Maintaining Resilience between Immediate Needs and Long Term Developmental Goals”. Inaugurating the three-day programme on 20th June, 2022, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said that teaching and learning are the major criteria to enrich academics in a University. Stating that the main aim of FDP is to enhance student satisfaction, he said, each faculty member should demonstrate the fundamentals and concepts for each course and adopt innovative practices to draw the attention of students in the classroom or lab.

Calling for integration of knowledge across all schools, Prof. Achyuta Samanta termed quality teaching, quality publications, research and patents, industry interface, involvement in administrative activities and tutor-mentoring as the parameters of a good teacher. He urged all faculty members to dream big by putting their best efforts to achieve the same through continuous learning.

Prof. Subrat Acharya, Pro-Chancellor, KIIT-DU, in his address, explained ways to achieve different goals for human development. Highlighting the vision of the Founder to create a better world, he narrated Prof. Samanta’s work for the development of underprivileged sections in the society, eradication of poverty, empathy for needy people and education (power of knowledge). Stating that education and teaching need to solve real life challenges, he urged faculty members to be determined to achieve future goals. Passion is needed to excel in respective fields and take the ownership that will give satisfaction to the faculty members, he added.

Elaborating on the theme of the FDP, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU emphasized on the need to achieve both immediate needs and long term goals of the university. It is important to inculcate various principles like Peace, Justice, Equity, Freedom and Passion in teaching learning as the success of humanity is the sole goal of the university, she said. The Vice-Chancellor shared the vision of the Founder to make KIIT-DU as a unique university with teaching and learning; research and innovation; process and practices; diversity; and rich, positive perception. All these five components need to be incorporated while framing the syllabus, she said.

Prof. Samanta further highlighted the recent ranking of universities, accolades/awards and various research projects and publications that need to be increased at the university level for global visibility. She advised faculties to contribute more on research activities as the university has created a conducive environment and existing robust system for encouraging faculties to engage in research.

Prof (Dr) C.B.K.Mohanty, Pro Vice Chancellor, KIIMS emphasized the aptitude of teachers to grow and improve for the betterment of academics. He suggested faculties to improve from the basis of student feedback and try to be a good teacher and student-friendly. Faculty members need to be more conscious and focus on how the institution will prosper through teaching, learning and research, he added. Prof. Saranjit Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU appreciated the theme of FDP-2022 and highlighted the future plans and vision of the university with regards to faculty teacher engagement in teaching learning process and placement of students.

During the post lunch session, three eminent speakers of KIIT-DU address the KIIT-Academia on Research & Consultancy Policy, Funded Projects, PhD Policy and IPR Policy & Patent Filing. 

Discussing the Research & Consultancy Policy and Funded Projects, Prof. G. C. Kundu, Director-R&D, KIIT-DU highlighted past and present research activities carried out by the university, SCOPUS/Web of Science indexed publications, funded projects and priority areas of research in India. Explaining the new guidelines designed for research and development in KIIT-DU, he laid emphasis on research networks among its various academic units, interdisciplinary research, and active research areas. Prof. Kundu informed about the interdisciplinary research model developed for KSBT, SAS, SOT, KIMS and KIDS; and future direction of research in the next five year plan (2022-27) of KIIT-DU.

Prof. S. Nanda, Research Chair, KIIT-DU discussed the genesis of the Ph.D programme and enumerated Ph.D policies required for research and development. Dr. Ashutosh Nanda, Lead TEC, KIIT-DU discussed the IPR Policies and Patent Filing.

Earlier, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, Quality Assurance, KIIT extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries, resource persons and faculty members present at the inaugural session. Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT DU proposed a word of thanks and appreciated the leadership of KIIT-DU for serving humanity.
