FDP on ‘AI & ML Innovations for a Sustainable Future’

The inaugural ceremony of the one-week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “AI & ML Innovations for a Sustainable Future” was held on 30th June 2025 at KIIT Deemed to be University (KIIT-DU). Organized by the School of Electronics Engineering (SOEE) in association with the EICT Academy, IIT Roorkee, the FDP is a significant initiative focused on advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for sustainable solutions.

Dr. Chinmay Chakraborty, Associate Professor, KIIT SOEE and Coordinator of the FDP, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the role of AI and ML in areas such as biomedical sectors, smart energy management, climate modeling, and environmental monitoring. He emphasized how data-driven approaches can support informed decision-making. He also pointed out the urgent needs in agriculture, where AI-based tools can help optimize crop yields and minimize resource use, and in industries where predictive maintenance enhances efficiency and reduces waste.

Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU, shared his vision for institutional collaboration and underlined the need to integrate AI innovations into academic curricula. Dr. Sarita Nanda, Associate Dean, KIIT SOEE, echoed similar sentiments. Prof. Sanjeev Manhas, Principal Investigator of EICT Academy and Professor at IIT Roorkee, stressed the importance of developing AI and ML research ecosystems to promote open innovation and capacity building.

The session was anchored by Dr. Proshikshya Mukherjee, SOEE, who welcomed the guests and introduced the program. The inauguration marked the beginning of expert-led sessions, hands-on training, and SDG-aligned content. Participants gained critical skills for real-world applications.

The ceremony was attended by eminent dignitaries and thought leaders from academia, industry, and research. Over 32 distinguished speakers from national and international institutions contributed through lectures and practical sessions.
