Faculty Development Program(FDP)-2019 on “Instilling Research Outlook for Faculty Empowerment” Inaugurated

The Faculty Development Program(FDP)-2019 on “Instilling   Research  Outlook  for Faculty Empowerment”   was inaugurated today morning by Hon’ble Minister, Higher Education, Odisha, Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo in presence of Sri Tusharkanti Behera, Hon’ble Minister of State(Ind.charge) and a host of distinguished dignitaries at KIIT Convention Centre, Campus-6. This program will be concluded on 29th of June, 2019.

At the outset, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, KIIT DU said that the purpose of the program is to enlighten and empower the faculties to deliver their best. In order to make them academic powerhouses, they should be shaped as institutions by themselves. Moreover, they are expected to transform the knowledge.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and Higher Education,Govt. of Odisha said, though there has been a lot of development in education and research work,  but we lack miserably in values. Actually, the whole world has become a global village and there is a stiff competition prevailing everywhere. But instead of a raw one, the competition should be cooperative in nature. “Knowledge Economy in general and Information Technology(IT) in particular is going to dominate the world of trade in days to come. Like erstwhile Nalanda University, KIIT DU  is gradually heading to be the most sought after destination for learners all across the globe and it will guide the promising students in right direction”, Dr. Sahoo added.     

Guest of Honor, Sri Tusharkanti Behera, Hon’ble Minister of State(Independent Charge) for Electronics & Information Technology, Sports & Youth Services, Govt.of Odisha said that KIIT has become a Human Resource Development Factory in eastern India. In today’s world there is a dire need of research as there is a certain challenge. “We should adopt advanced technologies in the next 2 to 3 years  including Internet of Things in order to make Odisha an IT hub in eastern India.  Besides, we must go for a change so that we can ensure sustainable development and visualize a progressive  Odisha”, added the Minister.

Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, VC, KIIT DU remarked that when parents look for employment, the nation looks for skill. The students ought to possess skill for bringing change  in society. He emphasized on Revisiting Education Policy and Restructuring Work Culture. KIIT has been providing efficient and talented professionals to the country as it has often been vying for skill in tandem with its Founder’s vision.

In his presidential address, Prof. S. K.Acharya, Pro-Chancellor,KIIT DU underlined the nobility of the illuminating personalities of two of our charismatic former Presidents of India, Prof. S. Radhakrishan and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. While Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the birthday of Prof. Radhakrishan, who himself was a great teacher and had shaped the lives of many eminent persons, on the other hand, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam once said that, he would like to be a teacher than anything else if given another chance in life. In general, Prof. Acharya elucidated that  Teaching Profession is simply the noblest among all and placed the stature of Guru(teacher) above the rest.

At the end of Inaugural Session, Prof. Jayanta Parida, Director, Quality Assurance Cell, KIIT DU proposed Vote of Thanks.
