Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, KIIT School of Public Health, KIIT-DU has become the Vice President-1 of the Governing Body of the newly-formed Association for Public Policy Education (APPE). APPE, registered as a society under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act, 2012 on 30 January 2021, is meant for promoting public policy education in India.
The idea to form such an association was first discussed in 2019. A group of academics and public policy professionals, including Dr. S. K. Satpathy, Director, KSPH, were invited by Prof. R. Sudarshan, Dean, Jindal School of Government and Public Policy (JSGP) to a workshop on ‘Teaching Public Policy and Economics’ on 29th July 2019 at Sonipat, Haryana.
In this workshop, JSGP, a pioneering public policy institution in India, proposed the idea of an association for the development of the public policy discipline and practice to encourage collaboration and partnerships between public policy scholars, and practitioners including the institutions involved in teaching, training, and research in public policy. The proposal was strongly supported by the participants of the workshop.
Now, a Governing Body has been constituted having Prof. R. Sudarshan, Dean, JSGP as President, Dr. S. K. Satpathy, Director KSPH as Vice President-1 and other distinguished public policy professionals from various public policy institutions in India.
KIIT School of Public Health (KSPH) has been active at International and National Public Policy platforms especially in the area of public health and related policies. The School organized an International Workshop at KIIT-DU in collaboration with Asia-Pacific Public Policy Network (AP-PPN) in the year 2018 in which the India Public Policy Network (IPPN) was launched. Association of Public Policy Education (APPE) is a new feather added to the public policy initiatives in India.
