KIIT Deemed to be University is set to launch a new project aimed at creating an encyclopedia dedicated to the craft of Odisha, along with establishing a Craft Museum. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS, has always promoted artisans, craftsmen and handicraft, handloom products of Odisha, not only in India, but abroad also. Keeping Dr. Samanta’s vision and advice, KIIT authorities have decided to publish a handbook dedicated to the craft of Odisha. This was declared during 3rd Kritantuja on the occasion of 10th National Handloom Day celebrated by KIIT School of Fashion Technology.
Joining as Chief Guest of the Event, Prof. Amareswar Galla, Pro Chancellor, KISS Deemed to be University has proposed this initiative. He said, KIIT School of Fashion Technology has so many young talents. The Founder of KIIT & KISS, Dr. Samanta has been promoting art and craft of Odisha on international level. This handbook on the craft of Odisha will be the encyclopaedia for students and researchers.
Prof. Himansu Sekhar Khatua, Director General, KSFMS, KSFT & KSMC, said, in Odisha art, craft and handloom is the second source of income after agriculture. He thanked students who chose fashion technology as their career. Fashion students should contribute their talent to society by supporting artisans and craftsmen.
Dr. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT Deemed to be University, said, this day is to remember all artisans and craftsmen of India. This is a day to convey the best wishes and gratitude to them. Because they are the real contributors to the handicraft and swadeshi movement. By observing National Handloom Day, not only we pay tribute to these rich heritage, but we also acknowledge its role in the socio-economic development of our country.
