Ortho Surgeons From Home & Abroad Attend Advanced Cadaveric Workshop At KIMS

As many as 80 Orthopaedic surgeons from around the country attended a cadaveric workshop on Thursday about ‘Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) for Hip Replacement and Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty (UKA)’, a first-ever demonstrative workshop held in Odisha.

The workshop was held at the Anatomy Department of KIMS on the eve of the 20th Annual Conference of the Indian Arthroplasty Association ‘IAACON 2024’ in the city. The DAA approach is a specialized approach for hip replacement to improve post-operative mobility in the early period with negligible complications. The UKA, on the other hand, is a surgical technique which addresses a single compartment of the knee and is very much prevalent among the elderly.

The event was inaugurated by Dean & Principal, KIMS Dr. A. P. Mohanty in the presence of prominent national and international faculty including Dr. Dermot Collopy and Dr. Rami M Sorial from Australia.  The HoD of the Orthopaedic Surgery Dept, KIMS Dr. Debashish Mishra; and the HoD of the Department of Anatomy, KIMS, Dr. Prajna Paramita Samanta actively collaborated to organize this cadaveric workshop.

Dr. Debabrata Padhy(Sr. Consultant Apollo Bhubaneswar) organizing secretary of IAACON; Dr. Tanmoy Mohanty (Professor Orthopaedics, KIMS) Organizing Chairman; Dr. Satya Ranjan Patra (Secretary of Odisha Orthopaedic Association, Professor KIMS); and Dr. Sujit Tripathy (Professor, AIIMS Bhubaneswar) Course Convenor were put light on this annual event.

The Organizers expressed their gratitude to the Department of Anatomy, SCB MCH, Cuttack, particularly Dr. Rajesri Mallick and Dr. Manoj Dehury as the cadavers were donated by SCB MCH.
