KSMC to Host Media Literacy Hub as Part of Fact Shala Programme KSMC Professor Represents Odisha at National Workshop

KIIT School of Mass Communication (KSMC) has achieved a significant milestone with its selection for the FactShala University Network, a pioneering media literacy programme launched by DataLEADS in collaboration with the Google News Initiative. Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda, Associate Dean of KSMC, was the only participant from Odisha selected as a Media Literacy Trainer and represented the state at the prestigious FactShala Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop held in New Delhi from December 10–11, 2024.

The FactShala programme aims to build a nationwide network of media educators and educational institutes to empower future generations with critical media literacy skills. Dr. Panda’s application stood out among numerous submissions, earning him the honor of contributing to this national initiative.

The two-day ToT workshop brought together 50 participants from 20 states, where experts in media and information literacy provided comprehensive training. Dr. Panda also secured a podium finish in a quiz competition held during the event, showcasing his expertise and commitment to media literacy.

As part of the programme, KSMC will establish a dedicated FactShala Media Literacy Hub, making it the only institute from Odisha to host this initiative. The hub will focus on media literacy, critical thinking, and digital safety, aiming to conduct workshops for a minimum of 200 students. Additionally, the programme will identify five student champs who will be felicitated with FactShala Champion Certificates.

Dr. Panda expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, stating, “This initiative will not only enhance students’ media literacy competencies but also position KSMC as a key player in fostering informed and responsible digital citizens in Odisha.”

This remarkable achievement was made possible due to the visionary leadership and unwavering support of the Founder of KIIT, KIMS, and KISS, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, whose guidance continues to inspire and drive KSMC’s pursuit of excellence in media education. The constant support and guidance from the top leadership of KIIT-DU have been instrumental in achieving this milestone.
