KIIT School of Mass Communication (KSMC) organized a two-day workshop at Kalinga TV, Odisha’s leading 24×7 news channel, for the second-year Bachelor students. The students attended the workshop under the guidance of Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda, Assistant Professor, KSMC and under the patronage of Mr. Himansu Sekhar Khatua, Director General.
Dr. Panda explained the intricacies involved in the operation of a news channel. Ms. Soumya, Deputy Editor, Kalinga TV explained the entire news telecast process and gave a brief overview of the input/output team, anchoring, reporting, and interviews. In addition, students were exposed to the different departments of the newsroom. They interacted with Ms. Madhusmita, HR Head, who accompanied the students on a studio tour. The students also practiced delivering news bulletins in the newsroom.
The second day of the workshop covered the basics of anchoring which included controlled practice and delivery of the right tone, modulation and pitch. After the practice session, the final shoot began where students scripted and recorded news bulletins based on their chosen topics. The bulletins were shot both in English and Odia. The students also participated in a talk show. The workshop provided an excellent hands-on exposure to the students as they had spent most of their academic life online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
