Dr. Bidu Bhusan Dash, Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator at School of Mass Communication, KIIT Deemed to be University was invited as a guest speaker for the seminar, organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Rama Devi Women’s University. The event was held by the Department in physical mode on 11th March 2022. The theme of the Seminar was “Media and Public Opinion”.
Dr. Dash talked about public perception and its relation to public opinion. He further discussed the topic of media and public opinion using his past experiences to give real-life examples that the students could easily relate with. In his closing statement, Dr. Dash reminded the students that they should be free to air their opinions and also be open to the opinion of others.
Mr. Sandeep Sahu, a veteran journalist from Odisha was also a guest speaker at the seminar. Using his rich experience in journalism, he expounded on the role of Public Opinion and the impacts it has on society. He reminded the students of the need to uphold ethics, accuracy, and logical unbiased reasoning when they join the journalism workplace.
The seminar was followed by a series of questions from the students who were eager to get their doubts cleared by the two renowned guests. Afterwards, the students, faculty members, and the guests had a photo and interaction session.
The seminar was chaired by Mr. Narsingh Majhi, Head of the Department. While Ms. Soumya Saraswata Panda welcomed the speakers, Dr. Ambika Shankar Mishra, summed up the talks and Ms. Sweta Mohanty proposed vote of thanks. The seminar was moderated by Ms. Suruchi Jena and Ms. Debjani Mahapatra, Seminar Secretary of the department.
