Invited Talks by Young Researchers at KIIT School of Applied Sciences

The School of Applied Sciences, KIIT-DU conducted two invited talks by Dr. Anirudha Jena, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, National Taiwan University, Taipei and Dr. Puspanjali Sahu, Senior Project Associate, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar on 27th April 2022.

Speaking on the topic “Recent Developments in Li-based Batteries – A Route from Clean Energy to Utilize Pollutants”, Dr. Jena explained the development of different types of Lithium based batteries. Discussing the disadvantages of commercialized liquid electrolyte-based batteries, he emphasised the development of All-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) with Li-ion containing solid electrolytes (SEs). Drawing from his rich research experience, he explained the fabrication and assembling of ASSBs.

In her talk titled “Engineering Nanostructures to Enhance Multifunctionality”, Dr. Sahu discussed the various synthesis procedures to control the size, shape and mono-dispersity of nanoparticles. Digestive ripening is the most convenient way to obtain monodisperse nanoparticles from polydisperse ones by refluxing the latter in the presence of excess ligands, she explained, adding that the digestive reagents can be different amines, thiols, phosphines, etc. She also talked about the generic approach to synthesize multicomponent metal-semiconductor heterostructures, which could serve as a potential catalyst for photocatalytic water splitting.

About 60 students (M.Sc & Ph.D), faculty members and other functionaries  of the School attended the talks. Prof. Prasanta Ratha, Dean, KIIT School of Applied Sciences; Prof. Alok Ranjan Patnaik, Dean, CRF; Prof. Gopal K Pradhan; Prof. Dibya Ranjan Rout, P.G. Program Head; Prof. Jatin Sinha, Coordinator, P.G. Chemistry Program; and Prof. Lalatendu Biswal also spoke on the occasion. The seminar was coordinated by Prof. Rojalin Sahu, Associate Dean, CRF.
