KISS-DU Organizes National Seminar on “Sociology in Everyday Life: Methodological Approaches”

The Department of Sociology, School of Tribal Legal Studies and Tribal Rights, KISS Deemed to be University, in collaboration with the Odisha Sociological Society, organized a National Seminar on 23rd August, 2024. The theme of the Seminar was “Sociology in Everyday Life: Methodological Approaches.”

The seminar was attended by Professor Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor (I/C) of KISS-DU; Professor Rabindra Kumar Mohanty, Professor of Sociology at Mizoram Central University; Dr. Rabindra Kumar Garada, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at Utkal University; Dr. Prasanta Ku. Routray, Registrar of KISS-DU; Professor Pranaya Kumar Swain, Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs at NISER; Professor N.C. Das, Professor Emeritus at KISS-DU; Dr. P.K. Kar, Former Principal of Jaipur Government Women’s College; Dr. Iswar Chandra Naik, Assistant Professor at Ravenshaw University and Secretary of the Odisha Sociological Society; Dr. Subhasis Sahoo, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Central University of Allahabad; and Dr. Kanhu Ch. Mahali, DG of KISS-DU.

The distinguished Deans, Directors, Faculty Members, Research scholars, and students were also present. Dr. Krupasindhu Nayak, HOD Sociology was the Convener of the seminar.

Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Saranjit Singh emphasized on group psychology, group dynamics, interaction with the people, use of proper data, use of technology through sociological concepts, etc. Management of human resources is very critical for the next twenty five years, he stated. In his keynote address, Professor Rabindra Kumar Mohanty covered topics such as the concepts of everyday life, the premises of the Sociology of everyday life, the background of Third Sociology, the focus of Sociology as a discipline, the methodology and theories in context, as well as key considerations and the necessary competencies and skills.

Dr. Prasanta Kumar Routray highlighted the importance of experiential learning and value addition. The Inaugural Session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Pragyan Mohanty, Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Tribal Legal Studies & Tribal Rights at KISS-DU.

The meet also featured two Plenary Sessions on ‘Ethnography and Participant Observation in Everyday Life’ and ‘Digital Sociology and the Study of Everyday Life’. Plenary sessions concluded with a vote of thanks by Maitree Padhi, Faculty, Department of Sociology.
