Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology(KIIT) Deemed to be University organizes 7th National School Chess Championship-2018 from 28th January to 1st February, 2018 at the International Chess Hall, KIIT Campus-15.
It is being conducted by the All India Chess Federation under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Federation. In all, around 700 Players, 500 Parents and 20 Officials have assembled in KIIT Deemed University Campus for this event.
Inaugurating the Chess Championship on 28th January, 2018, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT &KISS said that KIIT has been promoting Chess in Odisha for the last one decade to spread its popularity among the masses like other sports and games.

In all, 12 different categories (U-7 Boys & Girls, U-9 B&G, U-11 B&G, U-13 B&G, U-15 B&G, U-17 B&G) participated in this event. Top 3 players were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in each category by the Chief Guest Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, KIIT Deemed University in presence of Shri K K Sharma, Secretary, AOCA , Shri N K Nanda Kumar, Chief Guest and Dr. Gaganendu Dash, Director of Sports, KIIT-DU. Two employees of KIIT, Ms. Aparajita Gochiikar and Mr. Jyoti Sankar Nanda of Odisha were awarded with Arbiter Norms for successfully conducting this event.
The Results of Odisha players are as given below:
- U-9 Boys Sriansh Dash (Bronze) with 7 points out of 9 rounds.
- U-9 Girls : Arushi Srichandan (Bronze) with 7 points out of 9 rounds.
- U-13 Boys : Mohitesh Dey (Bronze) with 6.5 points out of 9 rounds.
- U-17 Girls : Rutumbara Bidhar (Gold) with 5 points out of 7 rounds.
