Training Programme on English Communication Skills conducted at KIIT

A  Training Programme on English Communication Skills was conducted for forty-eight non teaching staff members(including the hostel staff) of KIIT Deemed to be University on  17th January, 2020.

The Programme is part of the series of Training Programmes  designed by the HRD Committee of the University as per the directives of the Hon’ble Founder  and  approved by  the  Pro-Vice Chancellor. The Programme was facilitated & ably supported by the Director-HR, Sri  Sibananda Mishra

The Programme was inaugurated by  Dr. Narayan  Tripathy, Director General, Administration.  Dr. Tripathy encouraged the staff members to improve their verbal communication skills, keeping in mind the “Institution of Eminence” tag earned by the University from The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of  India.  He requested the participants to make the class interactive, since it was a communication class.

The programme was graced by the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Prof  Hrushikesha Mohanty, who advised the participants that keeping in mind that language is a dynamic process, the staff should try to make the University bloom and make it visible to the outside community. Society is changing very fast and all should refresh themselves rather than staying somewhere in the corner. He further stressed that proper TNA should be carried out and change should be recorded. Training can also focus on front desk re-skilling, student management and augmenting  domain expertise.

The session was taken by  Dr. Pramod Kumar Das, Asst.  Professor, KIIT School of Languages and  Dr. Chinmaya  Kumar  Das, Director-Administration, Founder’s  Office.

Dr. P.K. Das deliberated upon the process and different examples of Communication. He stressed upon the ABC  of communication i.e.  Accuracy, Brevity & Clarity. He told that effective communication encompasses listening skills, proper body language, tone, intonation & avoiding miscommunication. Barriers of miscommunication should be overcome. Proper etiquettes & fluency are important. A listening game & tongue twisters were also used by him as part of role play.

Dr. C.K. Das, the other resource person stressed upon a  valuable list of  hundred methods by which the participants can improve their communication skills. He made the participants speak extempore in English & created awareness to increase their employability by taking ownership, responding to grievances of students, parents in proper manner and developing critical thinking. He recounted various  achievements of the organization and encouraged the participants to speak the good things and protect the interests of the University in all forums.

The Programme was coordinated by Ms.  Jhimli Lodh, an Officer from  HR Cell.
