KIIT Deemed to be University won the Odisha State Energy Conservation Award, 2022 on 14th December, 2022, which is observed as National Energy Conservation Day. KIIT won the award in the category of ‘Educational Institute for Best Performance in the Field of Energy Saving and Conservation’.
KIIT has implemented several programmes and initiatives for energy efficiency and resource conservation. It has taken measures like insulation of the cables connecting the PV system and energy audit programmes for the efficient use of electrical equipment. Nine energy-saving and conservation projects were planned for the year 2021–22, including the installation of a solar water heating system on top of a dormitory; the use of LED lighting for general lighting at KIIT campuses; rooftop solar installations; energy generation from biomass (waste products); dedicated feeders from Chandaka grid; the use of capacitor banks to improve power factor; the use of sensors for overhead water tanks; and the replacement of single phase with three phase power sources. Thus, a total energy saving of 102.73 lakh K was achieved, while the total amount saved for 2021–22 is Rs. 7,85,02,922.96.
